Sailing The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Everyone needs to watch this--it's shockingly disgusting:

About this talk:
Capt. Charles Moore of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation first discovered the Great Pacific Garbage Patch -- an endless floating waste of plastic trash. Now he's drawing attention to the growing, choking problem of plastic debris in our seas.

Uh yeah, when he says "discovered", he means, "discovered it himself". The NOAA knew about this 9 years before he did and 21 years before you did.

This guy's no Magellan. He "discovered" the "GPGP" on a trans-pacific yacht race and was so compelled by it that he started a foundation that he does not lead. (At least currently.)

Nothing against his cause, it sounds like a legitimate and serious problem, but TED distorts his role in this little case study ridiculously. Moore seems to be plenty SoCal BoBo and very little seafaring explorer.
