American Xenophobia: The World Is Watching

Check out this clip from Al Jazeera English:

As Americans, we should all be horrified that some of our fellow citizens are this terrifyingly ignorant and bigoted. But just think about how this plays around the world. If our county desires to continue to be a world leader, we need to show the world how progressive and tolerant we are.

For the sake of our international reputation, leaders in the Republican Party have to do more to distance themselves from these bat-shit-crazy xenophobes. If a party can't win without the support of neanderthals like these, it simply doesn't deserve to win. And if a party is willing to sell its soul to win such the votes of such a rank mob, our nation can't afford to put it in power.

The young man with the baby reminds me of the character Eli Sunday in There Will Be Blood.

Don't you find it slightly ironic that these people will talk to Al-Jazeera News but can't stand the thought of voting for Obama because he's a Muslim?

Fortunately for our international reputation, unfortunately for the sake of civil discourse, these people exist everywhere. Just change the group they belong to and the group they are against and their statements are nearly identical no matter what part of the world they are from.
